The reviews of the papers submitted to MICCAI 2024 were sent to all authors at the beginning of this week. We would like to share with you a few facts.
We had an unprecedented number of 2,869 submissions, a 21% increase in the number of papers since last year and 54% since MICCAI 2022. Forty papers were submitted by scientists based in African institutions and 127 papers identified under the new theme "MICCAI for Health Equity.” This is exciting, and we are very grateful to the 153 area chairs and 2135 reviewers who have worked hard to provide timely reviews and early decisions. Their work will continue in the coming weeks. Additional thanks to the 365 reviewers who stepped in for emergency reviews.
We also appreciate the time and effort all authors put into preparing their papers and hope they found the feedback from the reviews constructive. The record number of submissions makes this year's review process particularly competitive. In summary, 91 papers were desk rejected, the most common reason being the non-compliant length of the manuscript. Based on the reviews, the area chair meta-reviews, and discussion among the Program Committee members, we provisionally accepted approximately 11% of the reviewed papers, early rejected 35%, and invited 54% manuscripts for rebuttal.
The increase in the volume of submissions and reviewers brought new challenges to the review process too. The Program Committee has worked very hard to address those challenges and we appreciate everyone's understanding if anything slipped our attention. We are disheartened to report that several potential violations of the scientific code of ethics were reported and are under investigation.
While the review process continues, check the new initiatives and satellite events at MICCAI 2024. Please note the upcoming deadlines and be sure to visit the conference website for the latest updates.
