CALL FOR TUTORIALS

This year all satellite events are required to submit LOI. If you are considering submitting a Workshop proposal for MICCAI 2026, you must submit an LOI by December 15, 2025.

Tutorial organizers can access the submission form at the MICCAI 2026 CMT link: https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/MICCAISAT2026/Submission/Index.

Full proposals are due January 9, 2026.

We are soliciting proposals for tutorials to be held with MICCAI 2026. Tutorials will be organized as half-day (AM or PM) or full-day, in-person events at the main conference venue. Tutorials are educational sessions offered by expert researchers and scientists on topics relevant to the MICCAI community. They are intended to provide educational materials for all career levels. Tutorials should focus on a specific theme (e.g., methodology, clinical application, emerging technologies, or software tools) and organizers should explain why the theme is timely and of interest to the MICCAI community.

Drawing on results from the MICCAI 2026 Tutorials Survey, we encourage proposals addressing the following high-interest themes, while remaining open to innovative and emerging topics beyond this list:

  • Foundation Models in Medical Imaging
  • Generative AI for Clinical Applications (e.g., diffusion models, GANs)
  • Explainability and Interpretability in Deep Learning
  • AI for Low-Resource and Global Health Contexts
  • Medical Agentic AI
  • Uncertainty Quantification in Medical Image Analysis

The community has expressed a strong preference for interactive and hands-on tutorial formats. Organizers are therefore encouraged to include components such as:

  • Practical notebook-based exercises
  • Case studies grounded in clinical practice
  • Mini lectures
  • Collaborative or problem-solving activities

Non-Technical Tutorials

In recognition of the growing diversity of interests in the MICCAI community, we also welcome non-technical tutorials, particularly in areas such as:

  • Grant writing and funding strategies
  • Project and research team management
  • Regulatory science, validation, and translation
  • Ethics, equity, and interdisciplinary collaboration

Topics relevant to MICCAI for global health and proposals from under-represented regions are strongly encouraged.

Due to space and time limitations, and to encourage diverse topic coverage, only a limited number of proposals will be accepted. In cases of small projected attendance or substantial topical overlap, tutorials may be canceled or suggested to be merged with other tutorials.

Submission Process

To submit the full proposal, tutorials organizers can access the submission form at the MICCAI 2026 CMT: https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/MICCAISAT2026/Submission/Index.

Make sure you select the "TUTORIALS" track in CMT

The content of the form is included in this call for easier reference.

Selection Criteria

Due to the limited availability of rooms and internet bandwidth (preventing remote presentations), submitted tutorials will be evaluated on criteria that include:

  • Relevance to MICCAI
  • Topics of interest and emerging areas to be covered
  • Impact on MICCAI and communities beyond — emergent subjects will be favorably considered if the link to MICCAI is clearly established
  • Quality of the educational objectives
  • Expertise of the organizing team
  • Expected number of attendees
  • Quality of the organization (feasibility of the program and expected timeline)
  • Dissemination, including video recordings
  • Advertisement and promotion of the tutorial
  • DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) criteria — concrete actions to ensure diversity across demographics (e.g., gender, geography, career stage), professional backgrounds (academia, industry, clinical),, and geographic reach (with specific outreach to the MENA/Middle East region).

Note: If the number of registered in-person participants for a tutorial is small, we reserve the right to cancel or merge it with other tutorials.

Local Tutorials

While we encourage submissions from all geographic regions, we particularly welcome the proposition of tutorials from the Middle East area. Potential organizers may contact the MICCAI 2026 Tutorial Team (tutorials@miccai2026.org) for assistance in preparing their proposal.

Copyright

Presenters will assign to the MICCAI Society the right to distribute tutorial materials to MICCAI members and conference attendees, independently of the copyright ownership planned by the tutorial organizers. It is the responsibility of the tutorial organizers to obtain the presenters' corresponding agreement.

Budget

The MICCAI 2026 Satellite Events Committee has limited funds to waive registration fees for exceptional speakers, including those from outside the MICCAI community. Organizers should request a registration fee waiver with justification by emailing tutorials@miccai2026.org. Organizers and speakers who plan to attend only their own/participating tutorial are still expected to register for the event unless registration fee waivers have been requested and granted.

MICCAI 2026 does not provide financial support (e.g., travel and/or registration) specifically dedicated to tutorial organizers/presenters.
